Fairfield House former home of Capt. and Mrs. Morton Howell Llewellyn, opened as The Aberdare Valley Educational Settlement, (Coleg Gwerin Cynon ), from 1936 until 1967.
Gwilym Treharne who arrived at The Settlement in 1956 was the last of its four wardens.
His wife Grace (nee Gabe) was headmistress at Pont Sion Norton Primary School, Cilfynydd, Pontypridd.
