    Helen Byrne

Helen Byrne was born in Cardiff in 1971. She grew up in Cathays and moved to Rhiwbina in 2002. She has worked as a Civil Servant for over 30 years and has also been part of Cardiff Council’s Events team since 2002. Helen loved reading and wrote poetry as a child, and in 2020 took part in the Sherman Theatre’s ‘Love Letters to Cardiff’ project. She joined the Sherman Scribblers shortly afterwards, where she was introduced to experienced writers who helped her learn the art of playwrighting. She also took part in the theatre’s Explore programme, learning more about writing for the stage. In March 2024 she completed Cardiff University’s ‘writing for stage and screen’ course and is now hoping to write audio dramas alongside writing for the stage. Helen volunteers with her local events group in Rhiwbina and is a very keen crocheter. She loves theatre, reading, history and her border collie.
