In the Summer of 2023, members of Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Learning Steps class explored the tales of the Mabinogion, a collection of 11 medieval Welsh tales teeming with magic, legends, and folklore. They followed The Mab Trail through Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Pontypridd, and then returned to their classroom to research the ancient mythological tales. The Altered Images project invited the class to produce a live performance of their favourite Mabinogion tale, Blodeuwedd, the story of a woman made of flowers. With the help of their tutor, Maria Carroll, and artist, Isabel Espinoza, the class created clay puppets of the story’s main characters, and performed a colourful, original puppet show for an audience of family members and friends.
